I’m running!  Wait… I’m Running?! Oh My Gosh, We’re All Running!

Two miles out and back. We all accomplished two miles of walk/run out and back! For some this was a first attempt at a new training regimen, and it was an incredibly motivational moment.  This past Sunday marked the official launch of the Studio Barre RUN CLUB! We had an amazing group of participants show up fully charged and ready to take their fitness and health to the next level.  There were no expectations (other than some sweat and some aches and pains in areas yet undiscovered), no promises, and no pressure to perform. It was kind of like going to your first Barre class!
So why a run club you ask? How does this fit into the entire Studio Barre concept?  We’ve wanted to offer our members a more intense aerobic option for a while, because a lot of us have personally experienced the benefits of combining the strengthening and flexibility that a Barre class provides, with the endurance and more intense calorie burn of an activity like running. Our ultimate goal isn’t just to sculpt great bodies, it’s to provide a resource for our members to improve overall health, and sometimes pushing your fitness to the next limit is the answer. Here are some reasons why we love running, and why we love the idea of a run club:
Running moves us forward. Yes, you can take that literally and figuratively. Running gives us the excuse to get outside and explore, which can be a challenge to do within chaotic schedules. And as we explore, we’re constantly making progress. The more we run, the better we get at it, and the further we’re able to go. It’s an incredibly satisfying feeling, and we like that positive energy!

Running is social. Going on a run with friends makes the time float by, and gives you the great opportunity to talk and burn calories at the same time! We don’t have the opportunity to do a lot of chatting while we’re tucking, so a group run is a terrific way to get to know thy neighbor.  Instead of focusing on the challenge of the run, you can redirect your attention to a conversation. With no distractions like kids or phones, it’s amazing how much you can learn about someone while on a run. A run club brings a larger group of like-minded people together, all participating in a common activity with a similar goal. What a great way to make new friends, create new bonds, and motivate each other.
Running makes us STRONGER, inside and out. We’re not just talking about physical strength – there’s a mental stamina that running provides that we all need! Our goal right now for the group is a 5K. For some, it’s not a huge challenge. But for others, 3.1 miles might as well be Mt. Everest! Regardless of the distance, committing yourself to a program, sticking with it regardless of how you feel, and accomplishing your goal, will only serve to strengthen both your heart AND your mind when it comes to every other activity in your life. When we can prove to ourselves that challenges are surmountable through running, the true value shines through.
Running makes us LOOK GOOD! There’s no lengthy explanation needed here, it’s just a plain and simple fact. Running lifts and tightens all of the parts and pieces we work on in Barre class even more.  We burn more calories, our metabolic rates increase, we tighten up legs, glutes and abs – it all starts to work really well together. If feeling fit and fabulous in your bathing suit is your goal this year, joining our run club may be your answer.
Running gear is cute, and we own a lot of it already. Old school gym shorts and baggy shirts are out, bright sneakers and cute running tights are in! It’s the same gear that we’re already wearing while we tuck, so it’s easy to go right from a Barre class to a run, just by putting on a pair of running shoes!
This is such an incredible opportunity for you to push yourself even further in your health and fitness goals. We certainly hope you’ll join us for a run one of these days, and maybe even the Carlsbad 5000 on Sunday, April 7th. Team Studio Barre will be in full force across the finish line!

Happy Tucking & Happy Running!
